The Wilhelm Scream.

I stumbled upon a discussion online about "The Wilhelm Scream," which is a sound clip that has been used in dozens and dozens of films since 1951 or so. If you've seen Star Wars or Indiana Jones at least a time or two, there's a good chance that this will seem eerily familiar.
